Danny Joseph

Danny Joseph returns to Talented Universe!

Danny moved from London to the U.S. when he met his wife 10 years ago at a church conference in Dallas. Being a law student in the U.K. made coming to the U.S. a huge culture shock as it was the only home he knew. He eventually acclimated and started a family with Joanna. They have three kids, including their youngest daughter, who Danny delivered himself after their midwife didn’t make it in time. Before his daughter was born, Danny underwent major surgery to treat complications from Crohn’s Disease. Fighting extreme fatigue and pain every day, Danny struggled to be a full-time musician. Brad Sample

Brad has been a professional guitarist for the past two decades, so performing on big stages has become second nature. Although he came from a family of singers, Brad never considered singing his strength until his dad taught him how to harness his voice and instilled confidence. Shortly after high school, Brad began working as a professional musician, playing guitar and singing background vocals for notable artists such as Brett Eldredge, Randy Houser and, currently, Colbie Caillat. Eager to step into the spotlight, Brad released two solo albums and previously led a band for six years. He met his wife, Rebekah, while playing guitar for an artist who was her roommate. They have been married since 2017 and welcomed a baby girl, Revie Rose, two years ago. When he’s not performing or spending time with his family, Brad runs 100-mile marathons through the woods - an endeavor he's undertaken five times and is preparing to tackle again.

Trained from an early age on piano and guitar, his appetite for music spans a range of genres, from oldies to mainstream pop to americana to indie rock. The EP is inspired by music across genres and decades, from the nuanced emotion of FINNEAS or Ashe to the layered harmonies of The Beach Boys and the lyrical profundity of fellow Idaho native Josh Ritter.

Michael Alexandersson

Coming from a musical family, music has been a central part of Michael’s life. His great-grandfather, Paul Alexandersson, had three hits in Sweden in the 1930s. His father played alongside legends such as Fats Domino and Percy Sledge and was the original frontman for the Blue Eyed Soul Revue. Michael began accompanying his dad to gigs at a young age, sometimes joining him on stage. At 16, Michael was discovered by a modeling agent and soon found himself walking the catwalk for Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. The fashion industry's instant success and fast-paced lifestyle overwhelmed him, leading him down a dark path. Michael’s modeling career ended within a few years, but it was a wake-up call that prompted him to get clean. In 2022, Michael was profoundly impacted when his Uncle Pauly lost his battle with addiction and tragically passed away. Michael is pursuing his dreams honoring his uncle's life and love of music.

J. Paul

With a mom who is a master pianist, J.Paul was bound to be a musician. Growing up, his mom tried to instill the importance of music in her children. J.Paul had a natural voice but still knew he had a lot to learn. He just recently started taking piano lessons from his mom, and they meet every week for several hours. J.Paul also discovered his passion for hairstyling at a young age, and it eventually led him to go to cosmetology school and open his own salon. Later, he moved from California to Washington, D.C., with his husband, Christopher, where he focused mainly on hair. When his new friends discovered his talent for singing, they pushed him to start gigging. He was eventually introduced to Grammy Award-winning artist Stephanie Mills, who was looking for background singers. Cassidy Lee

After getting no chair turns on Season 18, Cassidy has spent the last four years pouring herself into her music. Now, she’s returning to “The Voice” stage stronger than ever. During her first time on the show, she was still finding herself as an artist and grieving the death of her father, who had passed two years earlier. Shortly after he passed, Cassidy packed up and moved to Nashville. She wanted to throw herself into music to honor her dad. Looking back, she says she was running away from her grief. After her Season 18 audition, Cassidy took a year off from gigging to reevaluate and focus on self-care and healing. At the end of 2020, she formed a rock band titled Annie Dukes. She taught herself to play bass guitar and now sings as the band's frontwoman. She now gigs all around the country, performing at SXSW and the Opry Stage, and recently opened for ZZ Top in front of thousands. When Cassidy isn’t performing, she’s camping. She currently lives in a house at an RV park with her mom, who is a manager at the RV park.

Adam Bohanan

Adam, a self-proclaimed total nerd, loves everything that has to do with “Star Trek,” “Doctor Who,” Legos, comic books and writing goofy songs. Born to a white Jewish mother and a Black father, Adam struggled with his bi-racial identity. When his parents split at 4 years old, his mother relocated from New York to Israel where they lived for the next several years. Eventually, they moved to England, where Adam finished school. Adam participated in everything he possibly could pertaining to music, yet he never felt like he knew who he was as an artist. That all changed when he was working at a market in England as a teen and heard the song “Just Friends” by Musiq Soulchild. He immediately resonated with the soul-R&B sound. Once Adam discovered “Dirty Soul,” he began to take interest in the greats such as Al Green and Sam Cooke, reconnecting with his Black roots. Currently, Adam and his wife reside in Minneapolis, and they’re hoping to start a family of their own soon.

Creigh Riepe

Creigh grew up on a farm in a small rural town of around 500 people, where he jokes there are more cows than residents. He began playing piano in elementary school and discovered his singing talent soon after, leading him to perform at church and in the community. Supported by his parents, Creigh started making music at home, sparking his interest in production and audio engineering. Tragedy struck in 2007 when his father passed away from lung cancer. Creigh turned to songwriting to cope with his grief, finding healing in music. He pursued a degree in audio engineering at Belmont University, where he also led two bands. After graduating, he joined the country band Chasin’ Crazy, which opened for stars such as Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett and Hunter Hayes before disbanding in 2017. Although this left him in a dark place, his faith guided him through. Today, Creigh owns a recording studio and leads the production team at his church. Edward Preble
Sofronio Vasquez

Inspired at a young age by icons such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and other great American Songbook interpreters, Edward brings a unique tone and style to the stage — not just with his jazz vocal prowess, but also with his distinctive presentation. Edward takes pride in looking his best not for anybody but himself, usually attending college classes dressed in a suit and outside with a hat. As a person with ancestry from Latin America, Edward’s multicultural background enriches his artistry. With his father’s Peruvian roots and his mother’s Panamanian heritage, Edward performs in English, Portuguese and Italian, offering a diverse and engaging experience. Edward excelled in music and writing in boarding school. His talent for writing earned him acceptance to Emerson College for creative writing, but he chose to follow his musical passion at Hofstra University where he is on track to graduate with a B.A. in music performance – jazz and contemporary music.

Sofronio grew up in the Philippines with virtually nothing, including no bed or indoor plumbing. Despite his situation, he describes his upbringing as happy, because music was always there to bring his family joy. Sofronio fondly remembers singing with his dad and considers him his coach. Sofronio never thought he was as musically inclined as his friends and family, so instead he embarked on a career in dentistry. While studying for his dental boards in the Philippines, he decided to give music a chance. Shortly after this decision, Sofronio was met with tragedy when his dad suddenly passed away. Now, with a new sense of motivation to make his late father proud, Sofronio has taken a leap of faith and moved to America to pursue music more seriously. Since moving, he’s competed at the famed Apollo Theater, his cover of “Nothing’s Going to Change My Love For You” has topped 1million views on TikTok and a performance of “That’s What Friends Are For” has surpassed 9.5 million views on Facebook. Sofronio is ready to take “The Voice” stage!

Jamison Puckett
Shye

Growing up, Jamison was not the most musical one of his family; that was his older brother Eric. Jamison didn’t find his passion for music until high school, but when he started down a dangerous path, Eric pulled him out of it using church music and community. He attributes Eric to showing him a path forward. The two started to gather local musicians together and eventually built a community that became a haven of support for Jamison. He credits his folk-soul sound to his Memphis roots and also his wife, Erin. The two met in 2015 at a Christmas party and spent date nights going to support local music. Leaving his hometown of Memphis in 2017, Jamison and Erin moved to Los Angeles where Jamison took a job as a manager at a local church’s coffee shop. He was promoted to Director of Worship and is still in the position today. Now, Jamison and his wife are expecting their first child together and are excited about starting a family as well as his breakout on “The Voice.”

Shye’s passion for collecting various rocks, crystals, and geodes (especially amethyst) has been a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. She even wears a Halite necklace daily to maintain balance and confidence. In 2010, Shye’s life was profoundly impacted when her mother, Sheila, suffered a severe injury at work, causing her scoliosis to worsen and leading to multiple surgeries and extended hospital stays. During her mother’s recovery, Shye was raised by her older siblings. Guided by them and dedicated mentors such as her choral teacher and music instructor, Shye refined her musical skills and built assurance. Shye’s songwriting and singing became a vital source of relief for her and her mom, allowing them to bond and find emotional support in each other. Today, Sheila, while still dealing with some mobility issues, is no longer hospitalized and lives with Shye full-time. Shye finds fulfillment in volunteering outside of music, especially for LGBTQ+ and Black student organizations.

323
Jonathan Perry
Kinsley Treadwell
Jacob Sumpter

Jonathan, Kinsley and Jacob make up the Tallahassee dynamic pop/country trio that is 323. This band formed about a year ago and is named after their city’s zip code. Jacob, a recent high school graduate, has a go-with-the-flow attitude every good group needs. Kinsley, 24, is the mama figure and the glue that holds everyone together. Jonathan, 33, the trio's most senior and experienced, is the group's dad. Even though the band was freshly formed, they have known each other since childhood and attended the same church. When they’re not leading worship, they’re busy gigging out at bars and restaurants in and around Tallahassee. 323 wouldn’t be what they are without their unofficial fourth member, Jacki, who arranges all their music and mixes and masters their songs. Unfortunately, Jacki has been battling health issues and has been in and out of the hospital, but she continues to arrange for 323 because it gives her purpose and something to look forward to. Currently, Jacob works part-time for Jonathan at a property management company, and Kinsley leverages her marketing background in the promotion of the band.

ChrisDeo is a 16-year-old self-taught, multi-instrumentalist and first-generation American. Her mother was born in Trinidad and Tobago, and her father is from Guyana. After her parents divorced when she was young, ChrisDeo was raised by her resilient mother in the Queens projects. Despite the challenges of their surroundings, her home was a sanctuary of peace and solace. Both ChrisDeo and her older sister, Aaliah, find comfort in the music that surrounds the walls of their home. ChrisDeo’s passion for music truly blossomed in 2016 when her mother enrolled her and her sister in the NYCHA Youth Choir. There, ChrisDeo decided to teach herself piano chords, which opened the door to a world of instruments. Recently, she completed a program for low-income high school students at the NYU Clive Davis Institute where she learned to produce and record her own music. As a result, ChrisDeo has set up a makeshift home studio where she records covers and writes her songs. You can often find this high school senior busking with the cityscape as her backdrop.

Kendall Eugene

Having learned to play the drums at age 6, Kendall always had an affinity for music. Sadly, at 14, Kendall’s life turned upside down when his mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Having to grow up quickly, Kendall stepped up as another parental figure for his two younger brothers. Things continued to get more complicated for Kendall when he and his high school girlfriend discovered they were expecting a baby boy. Only 17 and having a mother who was very sick, Kendall knew the responsible thing to do was to give the baby up for adoption. At this time, Kendall started picking up the guitar and writing his own music as an outlet. Luckily, Kendall has maintained a relationship with his now 19-year-old son, Nolan. Always wanting to raise kids, it’s no surprise that he now has three additional children with his ex-wife. He has started writing music again and joined a band in February. He performs with his band several times a month locally in Pennsylvania and looks forward to what “The Voice” has in store.

Donald Heng

Actor Donald Heng is thrilled to join the stellar cast of the feature film Sight, which opens in theatres worldwide on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24th. Sight, starring Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actor Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, As Good As It Gets) and Terry Chen (Almost Famous, Falling) is based on the true story of Dr. Ming Wang, a poor Chinese American who defies all odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States. Set in 1970s rural China, a teenage Ming is played by Ben Wang (Disney + American Born Chinese) as he faces persecution and despair at every turn. Still, with his dedicated family's support and unwavering determination, he finds his way to America, attends Harvard and MIT, and helps develop an innovative technology that restores sight in millions of people. Taking on the seemingly impossible challenge of helping a blind orphan, the resilient Dr. Wang must reconcile with his traumatic past and face the harsh reality that the strength of his own will can only go so far.

Donald portrays the role of Zhensheng, Dr Ming Wang’s (Terry Chen’s character) young father, in all the flashback scenes. He worked alongside Ben Wang (who has just been cast as the new upcoming Karate Kid opposite Jackie Chan) and Jayden Zhang (Shang Chi), who portrays an even younger version of Dr. Ming Wang.

Donald has already had a busy year in 2024. Earlier this year, Donald guest starred in 3 different network shows: CBS’ Tracker, The CW’s Family Law, and ABC’s The Good Doctor. In the 2nd episode of 2024’s biggest network show, Tracker, entitled Missoula, Donald portrays Jackson Cheong opposite Justin Hartley (This is Us, Smallville) as an accountant who has recently cut ties with his family and joins a cult. Jackson’s parents hire Colton Shaw (Justin Hartley) and successfully track him down, discovering that Jackson may or may not be there of his own free will. In the season premiere of the final season of The Good Doctor, Donald plays Owen Pierce, a father whose son urgently needs a heart transplant. In season 3 of Family Law, Donald was cast as Theo Leung, a man who becomes entangled in an inheritance dispute with his sister soon after their father passes away.

Most recently, Donald also appeared in a supporting role opposite Emmy-award-winning actor Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as Dr. Berton in the indie black comedy American Dreamer, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film also stars Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine, Academy-Award-nominated actor Matt Dillon, and Danny Glover. Furthermore, he recently wrapped filming in an undisclosed role in the highly anticipated upcoming sci-fi blockbuster film Tron: Ares (Jared Leto, Greta Lee). In 2022-2023, Donald had a 7-episode recurring Guest Star role as Anthony Chan in The CW’s Kung Fu. Anthony is introduced as the district supervisor of Chinatown, running for re-election. He is a family friend of Tzi Ma’s (Rush Hour, Arrival) character “Jin." They are initially allies fighting for the exact cause until Jin discovers Anthony is being blackmailed, pitting them into a campaign against one another in the upcoming election.

Also, in 2023, Donald was cast as one of the leads in Hallmark Channel’s movie Retreat to You. In it, Donald plays a chef at a resort who falls in love with Megan Heffern’s (Wynona Earp) character. Throughout his career, Donald has had a leading role in an episode of the CW’s Two Sentence Horror Stories and other guest star spots, including roles on the CW’s The Flash, CBS’ Ransom, and CityTV’s The Murders. He also has a recurring role as George on one of Netflix’s most popular shows, Virgin River. On the big screen, Donald has appeared in a supporting role alongside Milo Ventimiglia (This is Us, Gilmore Girls) in Fox Studio’s The Art of Racing in the Rain. He was also thrilled to appear alongside some of Asia’s biggest stars for the project Fatal Visit (Sammi Cheng, Tong Dawei, Charlene Choi), in a role where Donald only speaks Mandarin and Cantonese for the first time on screen. Evan Rein

Canadian rising star Evan Rein is set to hit the small screen in a big way as Officer Don Gardner in Hulu’s highly anticipated new series Under the Bridge. Rein joins the ensemble alongside Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six), and Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife). The eight-episode series, based on the gripping book by Rebecca Godfrey, is set to premiere on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on April 17 and will be released in Canada on May 8 on Disney+.

Set against the haunting backdrop of a tragic murder, Under the Bridge chronicles the harrowing true story of Reena Virk, a 14-year-old who vanished after attending a party. Through the lens of Godfrey (played by Keough) and local police officer Cam Bentland (Gladstone), the series delves into the investigation, unravelling shocking secrets about the young girls accused of Reena’s disappearance. Appearing in five episodes, Rein portrays Officer Don Gardner, a rookie cop determined to earn his place on the Saanich police force as the sleepy Vancouver Island town is left reeling in the wake of Reena’s savage murder. Two episodes will premiere on April 17, and new episodes will be broadcast weekly on Wednesdays in the US. The TV series will premiere on May 8th in Canada.

Evan Rein’s other roles cover a broad range of characters, including the lead in the feature film Blue Hour as Lee, an anxious aspiring writer living in rural Alberta. Confounded by the news of an illness in the family and masculinity stereotypes, Lee must decide whether to stay or go. Evan’s performance in Blue Hour garnered nominations for a Leo Award and UBCP/ACTRA Award for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Motion Picture. Blue Hour won the Audience Favorite Award at the Ottawa Canadian Film Festival and picked up a nomination for Best Screenplay at the Leos. Evan’s career has included several spots on popular series, including Upload, Nancy Drew, Heartland, Valley of the Boom, Sacred Lies, Debris, and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. As a classically trained actor, Evan’s theatre career has included work on some of North America’s most renowned stages, including Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., Bard on the Beach, and Theatre Calgary, where he just closed a production of the hit Beatles adaptation of As You Like It. For his leading turn as Micah in How the World Began at Pacific Theatre, Evan’s performance was praised by critics and audiences. The three-hander drama written by Catherine Trieschmann explores what it means to engage in good faith discussion in a community falling apart amidst disaster and intolerance. How the World Began is one of Evan’s favorite productions.

Evan was born in Red Deer, Alberta, and raised on a farm in the heart of Central Alberta. Evan’s first interest in acting was in Grade 5 during a drama workshop. In a moment of uninhibited expression, he had his whole class in stitches and, from that moment, knew acting was his path. He credits his elementary and high school teachers who encouraged him to dream big. The big dreams started with small beginnings, making home movies with his friends and siblings with the family video camera—pure, raw, creative energy that fuels his acting to this day. Evan now lives in Vancouver. In his spare time, he practices his Spanish, meditates, and travels the world.

Donny Van Slee

Dr. Donny Van Slee is a chiropractor by day and a musician by night. While in school, participating in an internship, he made a pitstop in Nashville and fell in love with the music scene. He went out on a limb and emailed a few of the music venues in Nashville, remarkably landing a gig at Tootsies. He received his doctorate as a chiropractor and immediately relocated to Nashville to participate in Tootsies' Honky Tonk School. Three years later, he's still in Nashville, balancing music and chiropractic. Five days a week, he's caring for nearly 50 patients daily, then he's downtown gigging at night. In February, he released his debut album, "31." His major goals are to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium and Red Rocks Amphitheater. Donny feels lucky to have his family in Florida supporting his music journey every step of the way.

Frank Garcia

At the age of 11, Frank appeared on the singing competition shows "Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento" and "La Voz Kids" as a mariachi-style soloist. However, he also faced cyberbullying and assumptions about his sexuality as he was in the spotlight, making him hesitant to express himself due to his conservative upbringing. Music became his solace and he gained the confidence to embrace his true self over time. Eventually, Frank came out to his parents and received their full support. Frank's passion for music stemmed from his Grammy Award-winning musician father falling in love with Mariachi music. He performed extensively with his school's mariachi band and cherished those experiences. During his senior year of high school in 2020, Frank became involved in social justice activism, establishing a Gay-Straight Alliance chapter and organizing a successful pride festival. Frank now attends Columbia University and balances singing in his free time.
